In 2009 Chockstone Climbing Guides purchased First Ascent Climbing Services, a company that Jim had managed for years. Carol Simpson, First Ascent’s founder was happy to pass on her company to someone she knew would carry on the quality program that had been in place. Both company names are familiar at Smith Rock State Park, as First Ascent Climbing Services has been at Smith Rock since 1996 at Smith Rock and earlier at Joshua Tree National Park since 1993. Many of our guides have history with both companies and worked with First Ascent in it’s earliest days at Smith Rock. Given our history at Smith Rock State Park, our guides are true locals.
